About the Customer: BAHRAIN INTERNET EXCHANGE

BIX is the internet gateway and peering hub for the Kingdom of Bahrain. All internet traffic from the Kingdom will be through BIX. Almoayed Group was awarded the contract for implementing the entire gateway core network, servers, infrastructure building on a ‘Turn-Key’ basis.

Solution Highlights:

Almoayed Group was selected to provide the internet gateway for BIX’s ISP market. We designed the gateway using 7206 Cisco routers, 7305A Cisco Cache Engines and 6509 switches, all in cluster mode thus providing a very high redundant internet gateway for the Kingdom of Bahrain. The billing application was done by using Cisco Net flow running on LINUX, monitoring of the entire gateway was done using MRTJ software.

The internal network was implemented using IBM Servers. It also encompassed with Windows and qmail, qmail is nothing but an internet mail transfer agent for UNIX like operating systems. It provides security, reliability, performance and simplicity. The Cisco works included LAN and firewall using Cisco PIX535. Almoayed Group also implemented the Nortel network at BIX, which included of IP telephony, Access control, UPS and Air conditioning. Almoayed sets a primo example by visualizing the requirements and providing a full fledged sustenance in making the Bahrain Internet Exchange project a success one.

This project has been splendidly completed within a record time of 3 months using equipments from Cisco, Nortel and IBM.
